On November 5, the results of the reader’s referendum «Literary Chuvashia: the most readable book of the century» were summed up in the National Library of the Chuvash Republic.
The action is timed to the 100th anniversary of the formation of the Chuvash Autonomous Region.
The voting took place on the site «Literary palette of Chuvashia: 100 books to read», where the works of 100 Chuvash writers, from classics to contemporaries, were presented. The selection includes popular science and fiction literature from the middle of the 18th to the beginning of the 21st century. These are works that reflect the universal and national ideas of humanism, historical and cultural traditions, historical roots and modern development of the region.
All districts and cities of the Chuvash Republic, as well as inhabitants of the republics of Tatarstan, Bashkortostan, Mari El, Samara, Saratov, Ulyanovsk, Krasnoyarsk, Tumen, Moscow regions, Yamalo-Nenetsky Autonomous Region, the cities of Moscow, Ivanovo, Tumen, Krasnoyarsk, Kazan, Ulyanovsk, Rostov were actively involved in the referendum. In total, more than 5000 people took part in the action.
The winner, who was awarded the title «Book of the Century», was announced at the ceremony by the chairman of the Union of Professional Writers of the Chuvash Republic, Lidia Filippova, and the famous writer, playwright, journalist Vladislav Nikolaev.
The book «Salambi» by the national writer of Chuvashia Alexander Artemiev received the maximum number of votes (1271 votes ) in the reader’s referendum. The winner’s diploma was awarded to the daughter of an outstanding writer Alexandra Artemyeva. In her speech Alexandra thanked the National Library for organizing and holding the action, as well as for preserving and popularizing the writer’s creative heritage.
The novel «Salambi» was translated into Turkish by the author Bulent Bayram and soon the library will receive a copy of the book.
The ten most widely readable works also included the works by K. Ivanov, L. Agakov, G. Volkov, M. Ilbek, N. Mranka, V. Elbi, G. Orlov, M. Trubina.
Libraries of the Chuvash Republic did a great work to promote the referendum among the population, the most active of which – the Centralized Library Systems of Cheboksarsky, Ibresinsky, Yantikovsky districts were noted with gratitude and valuable prizes.
The decoration of the holiday was the performance of the artist of the Chuvash State Academic Drama Theater Emilia Nazarova, who read an excerpt from the work «Salambi».
