On January 25, the National Library of the Chuvash Republic celebrated its 150th anniversary with its friends and partners.

The holiday atmosphere was created by fountains of bright balloons, beautiful music, bright smiles, inimitable mime animators, video footage from the library history and a theatrical reconstruction of how it all had begun in 1871.

The words of warm congratulations to the veterans and the staff of the National Library on this significant day were said by the Minister of Culture, Ethnic Affairs and Archives of the Chuvash Republic Svetlana Kalikova, Deputy of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Nikolai Malov, Chairman of the Committee on Social Policy and National Issues Vyacheslav Rafinov, Director of the Chuvash State Institute of Humanities Peter Krasnov. The speakers noted the enduring value of the library, its extensive informational, cultural, social and educational work, and wished the institution prosperity and further fruitful work.

The Director of the National Library Roza Lizakova announced the upcoming anniversary events and plans to change the library space for readers. The main celebrations in honor of the 150th anniversary will be held in June – the interregional culture forum “Library in the space of intercultural communication”, a concert by Alexey Aigi and the group “4ʹ33ʹʹ” and an open-air exhibition “Picturesque Library in 3D”. During the year, the people of the republic will be able to join the one-time campaign “Perle vulatpar = Reading together”, the series of public meetings “Books of my Life: libraries of bright people”, informative and educational events, literature themed evenings, book presentations, as well as visit innovative exhibitions. The grand opening of the first of the four planned exhibitions in the anniversary year took place as a continuation of the evening.

The book exhibition “150 years at the service of science and education”, made by the creative group of library specialists and artist Oleg Ulangin, turns over the original idea of a library exhibition. Each section is a separate page of an amazing story, in which events, names and destinies of people, episodes, impressions, moments of library life are intertwined. Flipping through these pages, the reader will go an exciting way from the very origins of the public library of Cheboksary to the modern National Library of the Chuvash Republic. The exhibition impresses with its professional artistic design, attracts by the reconstructed place of the librarian of the XIX century, fascinates with book rarities, unique archival documents, photos from the library’s archive, prestigious and honorary awards. The mixture of traditional and electronic exhibits firmly holds the attention of the visitor from the beginning to the end.

Every year, on its birth day, the library awards the title of “Honorary Reader of National Library of Chuvash Republic” to the most honorable people. In the anniversary year, for many years of efficient cooperation and the implementation of educational and cultural projects, this honorary title was awarded to Associate Professor of the Chuvash State University Alexey Karpov, Associate Professor of the Chuvash State University Irina Bulygina, Deputy Director of the National Television and Radio Company of Chuvashia Alexander Magarin, the leading researcher of the Chuvash State Institute of Humanities Alevtina Dolgova, the friend and partner of the library Oleg Ulangin. The Certificate of Appreciation of the National Library for creative cooperation and active participation in the creation of the logo of the 150th anniversary was awarded to the director of the Cheboksary Art School Vladimir Anufriev.

The National Library of the Chuvash Republic is grateful to the Chuvash National Museum, Chuvash State Art Museum, state archives of the Chuvash Republic: Historical, Contemporary Historical, the Film Studio “Chuvashkino” and the archive of electronic documentation, Chamber Orchestra of the Chuvash State Philharmonic, Chuvash State Institute of Culture and Arts, the Chuvash State Theater for Children, the senior editor of “Tavan radio” Maxim Popov for the help in the organization of the anniversary exhibition and participation in the celebration event.
