The opening of the Chinese Culture Center took place in the National Library of the Chuvash Republic on September 20. The corresponding agreement between the Library of Anhui Province of the Department of Culture of the Government of Anhui Province (People’s Republic of China) and the National Library of the Chuvash Republic (Russian Federation) was signed by the directors of the libraries Hu Min and Svetlana Starikova in the Room of State Symbols.

The ceremony was also attended by Yuan Hua, Director of the Department of Culture of Anhui Province, Konstantin Yakovlev, Minister of Culture, Ethnic Affairs and Archiving of the Chuvash Republic, Liu Tinglong, Director of the Institute of Calligraphy and Painting, creative intelligentsia, students, librarians and journalists.

The purpose of the center is to popularize the Chinese culture on the territory of Chuvashia. The work of the Center will be aimed at introducing the achievements of China in the field of culture, literature and art to the population of Chuvashia.

Within the framework of the Agreement the libraries plan a mutually beneficial exchange of local history publications and electronic resources, mutual visits of librarians to exchange experience and organize internships, conducting professional events and implementing joint cultural programs: educational activities and projects involving the Chuvash and Chinese prominent people of culture, science, education and art, creative and scientific teams, lessons of the Chinese language, national arts of China and many more. In addition, the Chuvash Culture Center will be established on the basis of the Library of Anhui Province.

The opening ceremony of the Chinese Culture Center ended with an exchange of gifts and a sightseeing tour through the halls of the National Library.
