On March 19, the National Library of the Chuvash Republic celebrated the anniversary of the outstanding scientist, literary critic, Doctor of Philology, professor, translator Yuri Artemyev. On January 30, Yuri Artemyev turned 80 years old.

A lot of students, colleagues, friends and associates of the scientist gathered at the recital.

The main report on the life and scientific activity of the scientist was made by the candidate of philological sciences, literary critic Vera Nikiforova. «Yuri Artemyev is the author of 15 books, more than 250 articles, literary portraits, reviews, a specialist in the literature of the peoples of Russia and the Volga region. In his research, the scientist comprehensively analyzed the work of E.V. Elliev, V.E. Rzaya, A.S. Artemyeva, A.V. Emelyanov and other Chuvash writers».

Yuri Artemyev was published in the magazines «Friendship of peoples», «The Volga», «Philological sciences», the newspaper «Literary Russia». In 2013, his book «Konstantin Ivanov: Life. Fate. Immortality» was issued, for which the author was awarded the State Prize of the Chuvash Republic in the field of literature and art.

The director of the National Library on behalf of the entire library staff, cordially congratulated Yuri Artemyev on his anniversary, noting his invaluable contribution to the development of Chuvash literature and literary criticism. Also she presented a new edition – the bibliographic index «Artemyev Yuri Mikhailovich», prepared by specialists of the Department of National Literature and Bibliography to the anniversary of the scientist.

The delegations including the representatives from The Chuvash State University named after I. Ulyanov, in which Yuri Artemyev worked for more than 40 years, the Chuvash State Institute of the Humanities, the Chuvash State Pedagogical University named after I. Yakovlev, the Union of Professional Writers of the Chuvash Republic, the Chuvash Book Publishing House and other organizations congratulated the hero of the day.

The decoration of the holiday was a bright performance of the members of the folklore group «Salam» from the village of  Toburdanovo, Kanashsky district, the small motherland of Yuri Artemyev.
