Recently Chuvash local historians gathered at the National Library of the Chuvash Republic to summarize their work over the last year and discuss relevant issues of history, archeology, local history and tourism. The interregional forum was organized by the National Library and the Union of Chuvash Local Historians, and was dedicated to the anniversary date – the 555th anniversary of the founding of the city of Cheboksary. It was attended by delegates from Chuvashia, Tatarstan, and the Ulyanovsk region.
The meeting began with a minute of silence in memory of those who have been killed and injured in the terrorist attack in the Crocus City Hall in Moscow region.
The participants were greeted by the head of the city, Denis Spirin. In his speech he gave the high assessment of the activity of the local historians, thanked them for their relentless work on the study of the native land, for the great contribution to the preservation, enhancement and popularization of the cultural and historical heritage of the people, the most active, including the staff of the National Library, were presented with souvenir banknotes released in honor of the 555th anniversary of the city of Cheboksary.
During the event, reports of the specialists of various spheres were presented, reports on the activities of local departments of the Union of Chuvash Local Historians in the municipal districts of Chuvashia for 2023 were heard. Of special interest was the story of a scientific worker of the Nikolay Myasnikov Chuvash State Institute of Humanities about the archeological findings and exploration work on the territory of our republic and of the city of Cheboksary. The scientist visually demonstrated various archaeological finds.
The activities of the Chuvash Republican department of the Russian Geographical Society in the city of Cheboksary were highlighted by the chairman of the department, Inna Nikonorova. The head also called on local historians to actively participate in the republican competitions «The best comfortable springs in the municipal districts of Chuvashia» and «Chuvashia is the land of thousands of springs». The forum raised important issues on the preservation of culture, language, historical memory of the Chuvash people, as well as issues of mentoring in local history, preservation and development of school museums, etc.
A pleasant moment of the forum was the ceremony of awarding the winners of the competition of the best local history publications for 2023, awarding honorary titles, diplomas and letters of thanks to distinguished local historians.
