On April 24, the National Library of the Chuvash Republic held a solemn ceremony of awarding the winners of the Republican festival-contest «Literary Chuvashia: the most readable book – 2017».The contest was held under the sub-program “Support and development of reading in the Chuvash Republic” of the state program of the Chuvash Republic «Development of Culture and Tourism» with the support of the Ministry of Culture, Nationalities and Archival Affairs of the Chuvash Republic.

The celebration was opened by the head of the department of the Ministry of Culture of Chuvashia, Inna Ilyina, and the director of the National Library, Svetlana Starikova. They congratulated everyone on the day of the Chuvash language and thanked the writers and librarians for their hard work in promoting books and reading among the population of the republic. The chairman, doctor of philological sciences Yuri Artemyev, spoke about the work of the jury, urging the writers to visit libraries and schools of the republic more actively and to meet with readers. This year libraries of 19 districts and 4 cities of Chuvashia took part in organizing the events of the contest. Of the 162 books presented at the contest, the most readable books in six categories were identified. In the nomination «The most readable works in prose in the Chuvash language» the books- winners are: «Sinner» by Valerian Muravyev and «The voice in the hoarfrost: novels, stories» by Fedor Agivera.

In the nominations «The most readable work in prose in the Russian language» and «The most readable work in poetry» among the books published in 2017, the winners were undefined.

«Hot days: stories» by Nikolai Andreev and «Nataly: poems» by Lyudmila Smolina were chosen as «The most readable children’s books».

In the nomination «Dramaturgy» the most readable book was «Selected works. 3-rd volume» by Nikolai Terentyev.

Chuvash writers actively translate works of Russian and foreign authors into the Chuvash language. In this regard, a separate nomination «The Most Readable Translated Book» was established, the winner in which was the novel «Eternal Volga» (written by Nikolai Sorokin) in the translation of Chuvash folk poets Yuri Semender and Valery Turgai, a writer and a journalist Rimma Prokopeva.

Nikolai Martynov, the author of the book «The wheel of  life: novels, stories», was awarded  with a special diploma for his contribution in the development of Chuvash literature.

The writers Vladislav Nikolaev, Marina Karyagina, Elena Mustaeva, Elena Svetlaya, Nikolay Sorokin were honored with a diploma for promoting reading.

 Among the libraries of the republic a competent jury singled out urban and rural libraries that held the best events to promote the book and reading and awarded the diplomas to them.

The winners and participants of the competition were warmly welcomed by the honored guests, popular authors, detective masters Anna and Sergey Litvinovy. They awarded the winners in the nomination «A leader of reading».

The Chuvash book publishing house marked the best-selling books: «The sun smiled » by Lyudmila Nikolaeva and «Crippled souls» by Olga Avstriyskaya.

All the winners were awarded with diplomas and books of the publishing house «Eksmo» and the Chuvash book publishing house. The holiday was decorated by the performance of the Honored Artist of the Chuvash Republic, the soloist of the Chuvash State Opera and Ballet Theater Dmitry Semkin.
